Passenger car production in Russia has fallen

OREANDA-NEWS From January to July 2025, the production of passenger cars in Russia decreased by two percent year on year. Sergey Tselikov, director of the analytical agency Autostat, reported on the drop in production volumes.
According to the expert, 441.7 thousand cars have rolled off the assembly lines of Russian factories since the beginning of the year. Almost half of them (46.5 percent) are AvtoVAZ concern vehicles.
"Among the traditional Russian manufacturers, there is also UAZ, which has taken 1.3 percent of the passenger car industry. If we add to them the historical Moskvich brand (2.1 percent), then we will get almost half (49.9 percent) of the automotive industry," he added.
The remaining part is occupied by foreign cars, mainly Chinese (43.7 percent) and Korean brands (7.4 percent) under the Russian brand Solaris. Haval (16.3 percent) and Chery (13.3 percent) became the most in demand during this time. At the same time, the latter brand will soon cease assembly — instead, the Russian brand Tenet (reshaped Chery) will be assembled in Kaluga.
As previously stated by the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vitaly Milonov, Chinese cars with Russian nameplates cause double distrust. The Russian Moskvich automobile plant was the first to manufacture Chinese cars. He also produced the Chinese with the Russian nameplate and AvtoVAZ under the XCITE brand, which represented the Chinese Chery Tiggo 7.
