OREANDA-NEWS. Valentina Tereshkova, State Duma deputy from the ruling political party United Russia, proposed annulling restrictions on the number of presidential terms after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of the country.

Tereshkova said that there is no need of the artificial structures, therefore the restrictions on the number of presidential terms should be removed from the Constitution. Another variant, according to her, is providing an opportunity for the incumbent president to be re-elected in accordance with the updated Constitution, if people want it. The parliamentarian noted that the opportunity for Vladimir Putin to remain a head of state is a “stabilizing factor.” Deputies greeted this proposal with applause.

Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the lower house of parliament, said the initiative requires consultation with the President and faction leaders, and announced a break in the meeting. Sergey Neverov, the head of the United Russia faction, declared that he would support proposed amendment.
