OREANDA-NEWS. May 28, 2009. A telephone conversation took place on May 26 between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.

An exchange of views took place on the tense situation on the Korean Peninsula resulting from the underground nuclear test carried out by the DPRK. The sides condemned the actions of Pyongyang that are a violation of UN Security Council resolution 1718. The interlocutors principally discussed the contents of a future resolution of the UN Security Council in connection with this problem.

Issues relating to a Middle East settlement were also touched upon in the light of the outcome of Sergey Lavrov’s tour of countries of the region that concluded on May 25.
