OREANDA-NEWS. The administration of Joe Biden, who was declared the winner of the presidential election by the leading American media, plans to revise the US Treasury’s sanctions policy. This was reported by Bloomberg agency, citing sources.

According to journalists’ interlocutors, this will be done by Wally Adeyemo, who was nominated by Biden for the post of Deputy Secretary of Treasury. He will review the work of the Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, the US Treasury’s department responsible for sanctions.

Under President Donald Trump, the United States imposed a wide range of sanctions against companies and individuals linked to Iran, North Korea, China, Venezuela and Russia, and the restrictions were often unilateral, Bloomberg notes.

The new Biden administration believes that Trump’s approach is confusing to both opponents and allies, agency’s sources say. According to them, sanctions are most effective when implemented on a multilateral basis.
