OREANDA-NEWS. King Harald V of Norway was admitted to hospital. This was reported by the press service of the royal court. “Early this morning, His Majesty King Harald was sent to the Rikshospitalet. The king is on sick leave,” the message says.

It is added that on September 25, Crown Prince Haakon will chair the Council of State meeting instead of his father, and will give an audience to Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

King Harald V is 83 years old; he ascended the throne in 1991. After the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, he was in exile and spent his childhood in the United States of America.

In accordance with the Constitution, the king in Norway is the official head of state and the executive branch of power. However, most of his duties are of a ceremonial nature.
