OREANDA-NEWS. The US Embassy in Moscow commented on the news about the possible closure of consulates general in the Russian cities of Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok. In March 2020, the diplomatic mission decided to suspend the activities of the Consulate General in Vladivostok, as well as reduce the activities of the Consulate General in Yekaterinburg and the Embassy in Moscow in connection with the pandemic. Since then, diplomats have continued to assess work of personnel, based on considerations of health protection, security and current needs, the Embassy’s representative told journalists.

Earlier, it was reported that American diplomats are preparing to revise the conditions of their work in Russia. According to several sources, the option of completely closing the consulates general in Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok is being considered. From the commentary of the US Embassy, ​​it follows that such a decision may be made due to the worsening epidemiological situation.
