OREANDA-NEWS  The security zone on the border with Ukraine is to be expanded in 2026. The corresponding instruction was given by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting on the situation in the special military operation zone, TASS writes.

The Head of State called the creation of a buffer zone a very important task that ensures the security of Russia's border regions. "And in 2026, of course, we need to continue this work," he said.

Yevgeny Nikiforov, commander of the North group, reported to Putin that the security zone in the Sumy region is more than 16 kilometers deep and 60 kilometers along the front line.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said that if military assistance to Kiev continues, the buffer zone could occupy almost the entire area of Ukraine. He added a video with a map of the country to the post, in which only a small part of it remained outside the security zone in the west.
