OREANDA-NEWS The leader of the Latvia First Party, former Deputy Mayor of Riga Ainars Shlesers, after a meeting with Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, compared the country's financial situation to the sinking of the Titanic.
On Monday, the Prime Minister informed the deputies about Latvia's difficult financial situation. The budget, which is expected to spend 12.7 billion euros in 2027, needs to raise 569 million euros next year. According to the prime minister, 893 million euros will need to be found in 2028, 929 million euros in 2029, and 1.735 billion euros in 2030.
"There is no doubt that by 2030, the Titanic - by which I mean Latvia - will sink. Tough decisions will have to be made, serious changes are needed," Schlesers told reporters after meeting with the Prime Minister. According to him, it is obvious that Latvia needs to radically reduce costs, in particular by eliminating various institutions and merging ministries.
