OREANDA-NEWS Russian President Vladimir Putin drew attention to the decline in agricultural production in the Rostov region.

On Monday, the Head of State held a meeting in the Kremlin with the acting governor of the region, Yuri Slyusar. They discussed, among other things, the situation in the agricultural sector.

"Your drop in production was much greater than in the country as a whole," Putin addressed the acting head of the region.

Slyusar confirmed this, noting that in 2021-23 there were records for the harvest - it reached 16 million tons - but in 2024 there was a 20% drop in these figures, and this year – 30%. The President asked what was the reason for the decline.

The acting head of the region explained that a combination of unfavorable climatic factors had affected: late frosts, heat, drought, and low water. All this, according to him, led to the fact that about one million hectares in the region were damaged or died.

"I understand that there are objective reasons, and you have just mentioned them. But there is something to look at more closely. Desertification, for example, the use of heavy machinery. It's not always clear that heavy machinery is needed, but you need to understand where and how to use it. Reduction of protective forest plantations," Putin said.
