Russia and China's energy diplomacy was considered a blow to Trump

OREANDA-NEWS Russian-Chinese energy diplomacy has demonstrated China's willingness to resist US President Donald Trump's attempts to isolate Russia and assert the United States' energy dominance. This was reported by the Reuters news agency.
According to the author of the publication, this conclusion is confirmed by a legally binding memorandum on the construction of the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline. The promotion of this project was preceded by more than a decade of fruitless negotiations. In addition, China has decided to increase gas imports through the existing Power of Siberia pipeline. According to the agency, all these are not only signs of strengthening ties between Beijing and Moscow, but also, more importantly, signals that China does not intend to back down from US pressure.
However, it remains unclear whether China will need additional volumes of gas, as Chinese companies have already concluded many long-term agreements for the supply of liquefied natural gas, including with American producers. In addition, China increased its own gas production by 28 percent from 2020 to 2024. However, if Russia further increases its share in Chinese imports of this energy carrier, it will undermine Beijing's long-standing efforts to reduce dependence on hydrocarbon supplies from the foreign market.
