OREANDA-NEWS Hungary was considered as one of the platforms from the very beginning after the announcement of a reference point in the peace negotiations process, said Alexei Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs. He shared his opinion in a conversation with Lenta.ru".
Earlier it was reported that the United States considers Budapest a priority choice among possible meeting places for Russian President Vladimir Putin, American leader Donald Trump and their Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky. According to sources, the final location of the negotiations may change.
The MP noted that Hungary is suitable in its parameters as a negotiating platform, since it is a neutral party to the conflict in Ukraine. In addition, the parliamentarian noted, Prime Minister Viktor Orban has good relations with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump.
"I don't see any pitfalls on this site. If there is enough time, the special services of both the United States and Russia will, of course, help by coordinating with the special services in Hungary and will be able to ensure security," Chepa added.
Earlier, Orban called on EU countries to stop obstructing peace in Ukraine and demonizing Putin. "Europe's self-sabotage robs us of our strength, while others decide our fate for us. Stop it!" he urged.
