OREANDA-NEWS Russia has extradited a member of an organized criminal group to Kazakhstan to face criminal charges for extortion and fraud, and he faces up to 15 years in prison in his homeland, according to the Telegram channel of the Prosecutor General's Office of the republic.

"The Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan has extradited a citizen of Kazakhstan from the Russian Federation to face criminal charges for committing extortion and fraud as part of an organized criminal group. This group, consisting of previously convicted persons, in the period from 2022 to 2023, using violence against entrepreneurs and residents of the Zhambyl region, engaged in extortion, debt collection and patronage," the report says.

It is noted that after committing the crime, the person involved disappeared and was put on the international wanted list. In August 2024, he was detained in the Amur region of Russia.

The Prosecutor General's office clarified that the suspect is in a pre-trial detention center. For the crimes committed, he faces a penalty of imprisonment from 7 to 15 years with confiscation of property.
