OREANDA-NEWS Cooperation between the United States and Russia in the field of rare earth metals (REM) is possible and would be beneficial to both sides. Ruslan Dimukhamedov, Chairman of the Association of Producers and Consumers of Rare and Rare Earth Metals (Association of RM and REM), told reporters on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, Russia's interest is in lifting sanctions on world trade not only in the RM and REM themselves, but also in high-tech products based on it.
"In return, we are ready to provide them with our rare earth metals and other types of resources," Dimukhamedov explained. He stressed that Moscow is ready to negotiate and trade on mutually beneficial terms.
Back in February, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about his readiness to offer the United States joint work in the field of rare earth metals. In March, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), confirmed that Moscow and Washington were discussing the development of relevant projects in Russia.
Yesterday, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said that Russia and China are also discussing the issue of joint development of REM deposits. He explained that Moscow is interested in technologies for the extraction of rare earth metal oxides, which only China and the United States possess.
