OREANDA-NEWS. In the White Sea, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov of the Russian Navy launched a hypersonic cruise missile Zircon at a coastal target, the missile flew 350 kilometers, its speed exceeded Mach 8. This was reported on December 11 by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

“Project 22350 lead frigate Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov fired the hypersonic cruise missile Zircon from the White Sea at a coastal target located at the training ground Chizha in the Arkhangelsk region,” the message says. The Defense Ministry added that “according to objective control data, the hypersonic cruise missile Zircon successfully hit a coastal target located at a distance of over 350 kilometers, the missile’s flight speed was more than Mach 8.”

For the first time, Zircon missile was fired from Admiral Gorshkov in early October, and its flight altitude reached 28 kilometers. Thereafter, the shooting was carried out in November, when Zircon successfully hit a naval target at a distance of 450 kilometers.
