OREANDA-NEWS  Heavy rains in autumn threaten to flood 12 regions of Russia. Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, told Izvestia where to expect extreme precipitation.

More precipitation than in September 2024 is expected in the regions of the Central, Southern and Volga Federal Districts. Heavy rains, as forecasts say today, will fall in the Kuban and Stavropol. There will be short-term rains and thunderstorms in Moscow in early September. Rains will also lash in St. Petersburg, although within the long-term norm, the forecaster warns. Precipitation above normal in September will fall in Buryatia, Irkutsk region, Transbaikalia, Tuva, in the south of the Amur region and in the north of Yakutia. The most volatile weather in September will be in the Far East: heavy rains and temperature swings are possible in Primorye, Sakhalin and the south of the Khabarovsk Territory.

Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations predicted an increase in meteorological disasters in Russia. Weather conditions in the country will worsen against the background of global warming.
