OREANDA-NEWS Farms of all categories of the Russian Federation harvested 17.83 million tons of potatoes in 2024, which is 11.9 percent less than in the previous year. This is reported by Interfax with reference to Rosstat data.
The harvest of 2023 turned out to be a record in 30 years. Excluding households, it amounted to 8.6 million tons. Last year's figure was previously estimated at 7.2 million tons, which generally coincided with the final data of the department — agricultural organizations collected 4.351 million tons, and farmers and individual entrepreneurs — 2.951 million.
According to the authorities, the main share of potato production in 2024, as usual, fell on households. The volume of grain collected at the citizens' sites amounted to 10.528 million tons against 11.616 million tons a year earlier.
Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation explained the decrease in harvest due to adverse weather conditions. Against the background of such dynamics, potatoes turned out to be the most expensive Russian product in a year. Prices for it increased by 92 percent, which experts explained primarily by the effect of a low base — in 2023 and 2022, on the contrary, potatoes fell in price by 15.8 and 31.5 percent, respectively.
