OREANDA-NEWS Abnormal snowfalls are expected in the regions of Central Russia on January 9. Evgeny Tishkovets, a specialist at the Phobos weather center, warned residents of the country about this in his Telegram channel, blaming Cyclone Frances for this.
"In Moscow, snowdrifts reached half a meter by 9 a.m., but this is just the beginning. Heavy snowfalls will continue throughout the daylight hours with a peak of extreme intensity in the period from 9 to 15 hours. On January 9, an additional 17-22 millimeters of precipitation will fall, and by evening snowdrifts up to 65 centimeters high will form in the capital of our homeland, which will become an absolute record for the height of snow cover in the entire history of regular meteorological observations in January," Tishkovets said.
He specified that the snowfall will decrease only on the evening of January 9, to become very weak at night and in the morning of January 10. Due to a snowstorm and blizzard accompanied by gale force winds, visibility at the capital's Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky and Domodedovo airports will deteriorate.
"The Kaluga, Orel, Tula, Ryazan, Kursk, Lipetsk, Bryansk, Nizhny Novgorod and Vladimir regions were flooded with abnormal snow," Tishkovets concluded.
Heavy snowfall covered Moscow and the Moscow region on January 8. Snowstorms, snow drifts and icy conditions are observed in the region. Due to bad weather, one of the cottage settlements in New Moscow was left without electricity.
