OREANDA-NEWS  Starlink's speed has increased in two years, but wired internet remains faster and more stable. This is reported by CNET with reference to a report by Ookla.

According to the company, since 2022, the median Starlink data download speed has increased from 53.95 to 104.71 megabits per second. However, only 17.4 percent of the provider's customers use services that meet the minimum requirements of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). She established that the home Internet should have a download speed of 100 megabits per second and an upload speed of 20 megabits per second.

Ookla stated that the median data transfer rate of Starlink is only 14.84 megabits per second. Elon Musk's satellite Internet is also characterized by high latency — 45 milliseconds, compared with the US average of 12 milliseconds. The researchers noticed that Starlink has not yet managed to overtake conventional wired Internet providers.

The article says that Starlink is extremely successful in attracting new customers. Since 2022, SpaceX has managed to increase its subscriber base from 1 million to 6 million worldwide. Three years ago, the company also had 1,761 satellites in orbit, and by 2025 it has increased their number to 7,607.

In early July, Starlink set a record for Internet speed in the air — 152 megabits per second. Ookla experts explained the superiority of Starlink by a giant constellation of satellites in Earth orbit.
