OREANDA-NEWS  About 150 tons of fuel oil were pumped out of the stern of the Volgoneft-239 tanker stranded in the Black Sea, which is 10% of the volume of work, the Kuban operations staff reported.

"The pumping of fuel oil from the Volgoneft-239 tanker continues. The work here is carried out around the clock. By the end of January 20, about 150 tons of fuel oil were removed from the tanker, which is about 10% of all petroleum products that remained on board the tanker," the report says.

It is specified that 12 flights have already been completed. The fuel oil is pumped into tanks and will be sent by rail for disposal.

On December 15, tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 crashed in the Kerch Strait area, 27 sailors were evacuated, one of them died. According to the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, about 2,4 thousand tons of petroleum products got into the sea. On January 10, a new release of fuel oil occurred from a crack in the stern of Volgoneft-239, which was stranded near the port of Taman, and the bulk of the oil products were collected in three days.

The Maritime Rescue Service began pumping fuel oil from the Volgoneft-239 tanker on the evening of January 19.
