OREANDA-NEWS   The Thai government has approved a draft extradition agreement with Russia, The Nation Thailand reports, citing a statement by government spokesman Rachada Dhnadirek. The publication notes that the agreement was approved against the background of mass migration of Russians.

Rachada Dhnadirek stated that the adopted draft treaty complies with the extradition agreements that Thailand has with other states. The document, according to her, will strengthen the fight against crime in the country. The representative of the Government noted that the agreement does not require parliamentary approval, since it does not concern the economy, trade, society, territory or investment of Thailand.

On February 10, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the government's proposal to sign an agreement with Thailand on the mutual extradition of wanted and criminally prosecuted people. After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, according to Al Jazeera, tens of thousands of Russians moved to Thailand. 40% of the apartments sold to foreigners in Phuket last year were purchased by Russians.
