OREANDA-NEWS Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit Atlanta on October 30-31, where he will take part in a ministerial meeting of the Group of Twenty, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
"Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will lead our delegation at the G20 ministerial meeting. The G20 is currently meeting under the American chairmanship, and a ministerial meeting in this format will be held from October 30-31 in Atlanta, USA," Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday.
She noted that most of the organizational issues related to the Russian delegation's stay in the United States "were resolved at the last moment."
According to her, "there was such an impression - especially, of course, regarding the situation with the issuance of American visas by the US Embassy in Moscow to Russian delegates who are going to the G20 Ministerial Council - that not everyone in Washington is happy about the planned visit of the Russian delegation."
"As for the substantive component of the working process, a thorough discussion is expected during the meeting on a wide range of geopolitical challenges, including conflict issues, confrontational trends undermining the foundations of the global economy. That is, in this case, of course, the central theme is the global economy, but not without analyzing those, including, first of all, the destructive trends in geopolitics that are taking place," the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
According to Zakharova, the Russian delegation uses the meeting of the G20 foreign ministers "to promote Russian ideas aimed at strengthening the foundations of a multipolar world based on the totality of the principles of the United Nations Charter, respect for the sovereignty of countries, and the development of equal and mutually beneficial cooperation between them." The Russian delegation, led by Lavrov, "will advocate for the speedy reform of global economic institutions," Zakharova explained.
