OREANDA-NEWS The updated Russian banknotes have three levels of protection, they are much more difficult to counterfeit than the banknotes of 1997, said Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia Sergey Belov in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"The new banknotes contain a more advanced security system compared to the banknotes of the 1997 model, they will be much more difficult to counterfeit. And the higher the nominal value, the more protective elements there are," said the deputy chairman of the Central Bank.
"Modern banknotes contain a whole range of protective features. They can be grouped into three levels," he said.
The first level is designed to verify the authenticity of banknotes by people, these are the signs that can be seen in the light or when the banknote is tilted, recognized by touch, said the deputy chairman of the Central Bank.
"The security features of the second level are read by devices that accept, issue and process banknotes. The most common of them are payment terminals and ATMs," he said.
The third level is checked by the Bank of Russia's equipment when banknotes arrive at the regulator and they need to be counted and sorted, Belov added.
He said that if you look at the new 5,000-ruble banknote for illumination, you can see a multi-tone watermark on the white field - these are fragments of urban development, it is combined with a high-light image of the Main Post Office building. Adjacent to them is the highly luminous number 5000 with dark fragments.
"There are optically variable effects on the protective thread, for example, when tilted, you can see how the number 5000 is replaced by the abbreviation of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. And the more such elements there are, the more reliable the protection," he concluded.
