OREANDA-NEWS The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov during the briefing commented on the decision of the Armenian Parliament to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Armenian Parliament ratified the Rome Statute of the ICC at a meeting on October 3.

According to Peskov, Moscow would not like Russian President Vladimir Putin to have to refuse visits to Armenia, a country that is an ally, a friendly state and a partner of Russia.

The Kremlin representative noted that the peoples of Armenia and Russia have a lot in common and will always be united, but at the same time additional questions will appear to the Armenian leadership, which were transmitted to him in advance.

"We doubt and doubted at first that from the point of view of bilateral relations, Armenia's accession to the Rome Statute of the ICC is correct. We consider this an incorrect decision," Peskov said.

He stressed that the Kremlin does not agree with the words of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that the republic's decision to join this statute is due to the insufficiency of the CSTO instruments, this is not the case, and most in Armenia understand that the organization's instruments and the Armenian-Russian partnership are irreplaceable.

Peskov expressed the opinion that, perhaps, the Armenian side has its own criticism, its own debates, but the republic has no better mechanisms listed above.

The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation also spoke about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. He recalled that Pashinyan, during his visit to Prague this year, recognized the region as Azerbaijan, that is, recognized Nagorno-Karabakh as the territory of Azerbaijan.

According to Peskov, this decision of Pashinyan led to Baku launching its anti-terrorist operation in Karabakh on September 19, and after that the NK president signed a decree on the termination of the existence of the unrecognized republic.

On September 11, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia had begun ratifying the Rome Statute to investigate the events on the border with Azerbaijan: we are talking about the incidents of May 2021 — September 2022. According to him, the involvement of the court in The Hague will significantly strengthen Armenia's security "when the CSTO has not fulfilled and is not fulfilling its obligations." The Prime Minister noted that Yerevan cannot ignore what is happening and do nothing. For more information, see the material "Newspapers.Ru».
