OREANDA-NEWS  Negotiations between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of ASEAN events in Manila have ended. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

It is specified that the negotiations lasted 35 minutes. According to Rubio's schedule, about half an hour was allocated in his schedule for a meeting with the Russian minister.

On the eve of the meeting, Lavrov said he intended to ask Rubio about the statement by US President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of an early settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Rubio, in turn, noted that he was going to discuss Washington's role in resolving the conflict.

Earlier it became known that the initiator of the meeting between Lavrov and Rubio was the American side. On the Russian side, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, Director of the Department of Foreign Policy Planning Alexei Drobinin and Permanent Representative of the President of the Russian Federation to ASEAN Evgeny Zagainov are present at the meeting. On the American side, Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Alison Hooker and Special Envoy to the President of the United States Sergio Gore.
