OREANDA-NEWS Inspections of ships under the grain deal resumed after the Ukrainian side, which violated the procedures, realized that their actions would not be carried out "impudently" and returned to compliance with the established rules, Pyotr Ilyichev, director of the Department of International Organizations of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told RIA Novosti.

"Ukrainians themselves violated the rules and procedures. We insisted that they be recorded and observed. But when the Ukrainians realized that you can't go through with impudence, now they have started (observing them) again," the diplomat said.

According to him, inspections of vessels were not carried out for only one day. "Now inspections are carried out as recorded in the standards of procedure," he said.

Ilyichev explained that sometimes five vessels pass inspection on the day, sometimes more, sometimes less: "it also depends on weather conditions, and most importantly, it depends on how the crews comply with the rules."

Earlier, the representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said that the Joint Coordination Center on April 12 was unable to inspect the vessels within the framework of the Black Sea grain initiative. The Russian Foreign Ministry explained that inspections and registration of vessels had stalled "as a result of the actions of the Ukrainians and the UN themselves." Later that day, the UN reported on the resumption of inspections.
