OREANDA-NEWS According to meteorologists, the fire danger in the regions of the Central Federal District (CFD) will begin to rise in May, and reach its peak in July, the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment reported.
On Monday, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, and the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Alexander Kozlov, held a meeting on preventing wildfires and minimizing their consequences in the Central Federal District.
"According to forecasts of the Russian Hydrometeorological Service, the fire danger will begin to rise by May, and the peak is expected in July. Alexander Kozlov stressed that due to the high population density in the district, any fire can lead to smoke in cities," the press service said.
According to Kozlov, "field work should be organized in such a way that it is possible to quickly identify fires and attract the necessary resources for their prompt elimination on the first day." "It is important to take into account the experience of the situation with fires in the Ivanovo, Ryazan and Tambov regions in 2022. It is necessary to have well-established cooperation between various departments: the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Defense and the Aviation Security Service. To do this, the regions are required to immediately report a dangerous situation and assess it at weekly commissions and federal headquarters," the minister is quoted in the message.
On Monday, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia reported that the past snowy winter contributed to an increase in the number of wildfires in the Central Federal District by almost five times. And in order to ensure the coordination of actions of all authorities and responding units during the 2025 fire season, a working group of the government commission is being formed. According to Kurenkov, a special fire protection regime is already in effect in some municipalities of the Ryazan, Smolensk and Tver regions.
"If the fire situation worsens, the working group will develop additional measures to protect settlements and economic facilities, including making decisions on setting a federal response level, and carrying out general coordination of forest fire extinguishing forces and means," the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment clarifies.
According to the head of the Federal Forestry Agency, Ivan Sovetnikov, the department he heads monitors the regions' readiness for the fire season on a weekly basis. "All state tasks have been completed in a timely manner, the readiness of forest fire equipment is 100% ensured. It is necessary to monitor the forces and means of staffing the groups on a weekly basis, so that it does not happen that there are employees by the beginning of the season, and by the middle they quit," said Advisers, whose words are quoted in the message.
The fire season has begun not only in Central Russia, but also in the Far East. In the coming week, the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will hold meetings on preparing the regions for the season in the Trans-Baikal and Khabarovsk Territories, the Jewish Autonomous Region, the message says.
