Three people were killed in an explosion at a traffic police car in Moscow.

OREANDA-NEWS The explosion on Yeletskaya Street in Moscow killed three people, including two traffic police officers, the Investigative Committee said. Earlier it was reported about two injured police officers.
According to investigators, on the night of December 23-24, two traffic police officers saw a suspicious person near a police car on Yeletskaya Street.
"When they got closer to detain him, an explosive device was detonated. As a result of the injuries received, two police officers, as well as a person who was next to the police officers, died," the report said.
The incident is being investigated under articles on encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer (Article 317 of the Criminal Code) and on illegal trafficking of explosive devices (part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code).
Investigators and criminologists from the metropolitan Police department are working at the scene, they will interrogate witnesses and study the recordings from video cameras. Forensic examinations, including genetic, medical and explosive engineering, will be appointed in the case. An explosive device actuation mechanism is being installed.
The investigation is under the control of the Moscow Prosecutor's Office.
The Moscow Department of the Interior Ministry promised to help the families of the victims.
"The leadership and personnel of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow express their sincere condolences to the families of the inspectors of the separate battalion of the traffic police of the Traffic Police Department of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Southern District of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow, police Lieutenant Ilya Klimanov and police Lieutenant Maxim Gorbunov, who were fatally injured while on duty," the message says.
Klimanov was 24 years old, he joined the department in October 2023. Gorbunov was 25 years old, he had been working in law enforcement since February 2022, and he was survived by his wife and nine-month-old daughter.
