OREANDA-NEWS Russian Transmashholding (TMX) is working on projects to equip passenger locomotives with a virtual coupling system, and expects its use in other areas besides the Eastern Landfill, said Andrey Romanchikov, Managing Director for the development of intelligent control Systems at Transmashholding, CEO of TMX Intelligent Systems.

He recalled that TMH, together with its main customer, Russian Railways, and with the participation of the leading scientific and technological institute of NIIAS JSC, had developed a virtual coupling system. According to him, this technology has been implemented in three years on locomotives at the Eastern training ground. It allowed to increase the capacity by 10-15%: in absolute terms, 10 million tons of additional cargo in 2024.

"These projects are being worked out. This year, for the first time, we will have diesel locomotives equipped with this system. Where there is no electrification, first of all on BAM. We are working on similar projects for passenger traffic," Romanchikov replied on the sidelines of the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia (CIPR) conference when asked if it was planned to introduce a virtual coupling system in other areas, including the Azov-Black Sea basin.
