OREANDA-NEWS US President Donald Trump has sharply raised tariffs on some goods supplied to the country. He stated this in his social network Truth Social.
So, the American leader announced the introduction of a 50% duty on imported bathroom and kitchen headsets from October 1, as well as a 30% duty on upholstered furniture. He explained this decision by the "massive influx" of furniture items from other countries.
"This is a very unfair practice, but we must protect our production process for national security and other reasons," the president explained.
Tariffs of 100 percent will also apply to medicines if their manufacturing company does not have a factory in the United States. The duties will not affect those who have already started the construction of industrial areas in the country.
Finally, they will impose additional charges on the supply of trucks. The duty rate will be 25 percent. Previously, they operated only for the supply of passenger cars, light trucks and auto parts.
"In this way, our great manufacturers of large trucks, such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Mack Trucks and others, will be protected from the onslaught of external interference," Trump wrote.
At the end of August, the US Court of Appeals ruled that Trump had no right to impose duties and declared most of them illegal. In response, the president said that without his tariffs, the country would have been completely destroyed, and its military power would have been instantly destroyed.
