OREANDA-NEWS The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has urged the international community to reduce the cost of Russian oil. His remarks were reported by Novini.LIVE.
During the Odessa summit, Zelensky emphasized that Russia is confident in its ability to maintain control on the battlefield. However, he stressed the need to put Russia in a position where it will be forced to seek peace through nonviolent means. To achieve this, he called for a significant reduction in the price of Russian oil, bringing it down to $25 per barrel.
Zelensky also highlighted the importance of a clear decision on Ukraine's EU accession negotiations, which should be made as early as this year. He emphasized the significance of European unity, strengthening NATO, and providing long-term security guarantees for the country.
The leader of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the upcoming 18th round of EU sanctions against Russia will encompass measures targeting both the Nord Stream pipelines and 70 tankers suspected of facilitating the export of Russian oil in violation of the price cap. The Commission's proposals also include a prohibition on EU nations purchasing petroleum products derived from Russian crude oil and a reduction in the price cap for Russian oil from $60 per barrel to $45.
