OREANDA-NEWS  The Scientific Center for the Study of the Arctic in the area of the Polui weather station (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug) has drilled a thermometric well, it will be included in the state observation network for monitoring the state of permafrost in Russia, the press service of the governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug reports.

"The well drilling operation in the Priuralsky district has become unique. For the first time, specialists used a small-sized installation at a depth of more than 25 meters, while preserving the surface soil layer as much as possible," the report says.

This depth of the well is justified by the fact that it is there that the influence of atmospheric influence on the permafrost roof stops.

In the near future, special equipment designed for automatic transmission of temperature data to the Roshydromet server will be installed in the well.

The new observation point of the state system of background monitoring of the state of permafrost has become the second in Yamal.

The Scientific Center for the Study of the Arctic drilled the first observation well in Salekhard in May. Its depth is also 25 meters.

A comprehensive permafrost monitoring network will be deployed throughout the cryolithozone area within Russia, 140 stations will be installed in three years (from 2023 to 2025). Based on the data obtained, scientists will predict the consequences and learn how to prevent accidents in the cryolithozone.
