OREANDA-NEWS  Scientists from Zhejiang University in China have unveiled a brain-like computer based on a specialized neuromorphic chip with more than 2 billion artificial neurons, the university said.

As the university stated earlier in its social networks, the laboratory of brain-like intelligence of Zhejiang University presented a neuromorphic brain-like computer of the next generation: Darwin Monkey (Chinese name - "Wukong").
"This is the world's first computer based on the principle of brain operation, based on a specialized neuromorphic chip with more than 2 billion neurons," the university said in a statement.

The university noted that the computer is based on the Darwin III computing chip, created according to the principle of the brain. There are 960 such chips in the computer system, the university said.

Wukong boasts a number of neurons approaching the number of macaque brain neurons, which makes it one step closer to a more advanced intelligence based on the principles of brain function," the university emphasized.
According to the university, scientists, using powerful neural and synaptic resources of the system, conducted preliminary modeling of the brain of living organisms with a different number of neurons, including nematodes Caenorhabditis elegans, zebrafish, mice, macaques.

According to the scientists, the development "opens up a new approach to brain research", allows for a better understanding of the brain and reduces the need for real biological experiments.
