OREANDA-NEWS  There are over 130,000 women scientists in Russia, which is almost 40% of the total number of researchers in the country, said Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, speaking on Monday at the 28th UN Commission on Science and Technology in Geneva.

According to him, this indicator makes Russia one of the world leaders in gender equality in the scientific and technological sphere. Mogilevsky reported that the share of researchers under the age of 39 in the Russian Federation is 44%.

The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science noted that measures to support student families are an important aspect of preserving women in science. There are more than 25,000 such families in Russia, of which more than 5.5 thousand are with children.

"We are opening groups for short-term stay of children, mother and child rooms on the basis of universities. As of February this year, more than 170 such spaces have been created, and their number will continue to grow. In addition, Russian universities provide for the transfer of women who have given birth to children during their studies to study at public expense. Financial assistance is provided to students with children, as well as the opportunity to switch to an individual curriculum," Mogilevsky said.
