OREANDA-NEWS. May 24, 2010. Mr Shoigu reported that the waters in Yakutia are subsiding and that all necessary assistance is being offered to those affected by the flood. The minister also reported on the fulfilment of the President’s instructions to estimate the material damage caused by the flood, in order to begin rebuilding and restoration of affected districts as quickly as possible.

The President instructed the minister to provide all necessary assistance to Poland following a flood there that has claimed many lives. Sergei Shoigu reported that preparations are being made to send airplanes with humanitarian aid, water pumps and diesel generators to Poland.

Russia and Poland signed an intergovernmental agreement on mutual assistance in 1993, but this is the first time the Polish government has sought assistance under it from Russia.
