Konecranes and GCT USA signed a contract
OREANDA-NEWS. In March 2017 Konecranes and GCT USA signed a contract for the delivery of two Konecranes BOXPORTER Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes.
Located in the port of New York and New Jersey, GCT Bayonne is among the most advanced terminals in North America. Already successfully operating a fleet of 20 Konecranes semi-automated RMGs in its yard, the new BOXPORTER dual-cantilevered RMGs (CRMGs) will go into service at the facility’s new 8 track, near dock intermodal yard, ExpressRail Port Jersey (“Greenville Yard”). Dedicated to rail operations, the CRMGs will span 47.5m (156ft) and feature twin lift capability, helping to connect rail imports and exports to the wider CSX and Norfolk Southern railway networks.
The CRMGs will share electric drive technology with the semi-automated RMGs, which will allow GCT Bayonne’s maintenance to benefit from equipment synergy across their operations. Moreover, outfitted with the Konecranes smarter cabin, the CRMGs will give operators excellent visibility over every move.
“We are pleased with the reliability and performance of the semi-automated RMGs. Due to our experience with Konecranes, we knew the company would be a strong contender when evaluating RMGs for our new intermodal operation,” said Pete Giugliano, VP, Engineering Equipment, GCT USA.
“This order shows that our rail-mounted cranes are strong across the board of automated stacking and intermodal operations,” said Jussi Suhonen, Sales Director, Region Americas, Port Solutions, Konecranes.
Headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, GCT Global Container Terminals Inc. operates four Green Marine certified terminals in two principal North American ports. Through GCT USA on the East Coast, the company operates two award-winning facilities: GCT New York on Staten Island, and NY and GCT Bayonne in Bayonne, NJ. On the West Coast, GCT Canada operates two gateway terminals: GCT Vanterm and GCT Deltaport in Vancouver and Delta, BC.
