Mitsubishi recalls nearly 200,000 cars for suspension detachment
Mitsubishi is recalling 174,382 cars and SUVs over an issue related to corrosion. The recall affects the following vehicles: 2002-2007 Lancer, 2004 Lancer Wagon, 2003-2006 Lancer Evolution, 2003-2006 Outlander, 2007-2013 Outlander V-6.
According to the automaker's recall filing, the front lower control arm might detach from other suspension components after being exposed to salt water. The most common source of this contact is road salt used during the winter months.
The recall is limited to vehicles that were purchased or registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. These are all locations where salt use is common in the winter.
Mitsubishi will inspect all recalled vehicles. Depending on the level of corrosion present, the remedy involves either replacing the parts or adding an anti-corrosion agent to the existing parts. The new parts will also have the anti-corrosion agent applied. There's no schedule in place for either notification or the fix itself.
