OREANDA-NEWS. On June 18, 2007 the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, met with the Chairman of the State Control Committee (SCC), Zenon Lomat, to receive his report, reported the Presidential website www.president.gov.by.

Zenon Lomat informed the Head of State on the current work of the Committee as a whole and on implementing a number of presidential assignments.

Specifically, the Head of State was informed on implementing the assignments related to the inspection into the use of lands in Minsk district. The President has charged the Committee to study the situation with the allotment and use of land plots in the country as a whole and to work out, jointly with the government, a system-based approach to the control over the use of land plots. According to Zenon Lomat, the government, the SCC, and the Procuracy, while working along these lines, coordinate their mutual activities very insufficiently.

The Head of State was informed about the state of affairs with the sales of oil products in the country. The SCC Chairman believes there is a lack of control in this sphere. Over 500 economic entities sell oil products in Belarus. The President has supported the position of the SCC Chairman who believes an appropriate enforceable enactment should be drawn up for accurately identifying "the rules of the game" in this field.

Zenon Lomat informed the Head of State on the situation with the sales of cement in this country.

During the meeting with the SCC Chairman, the President pointed to the necessity of providing a stricter control over energy supplies and energy saving in this country, over the use of state funds and implementation of the state energy supply programme.

Last year, only 16 out of 36 investment projects related to energy supplies and energy saving were materialised. The SCC intends to look into the matter to see who is accountable for that situation and to intensify activities in this sphere. Special attention will be paid to monitoring the compliance with Directive No 3.

Centralized testing for entrance to higher educational establishments was another topic discussed during the report. 22 persons were banned from the auditorium for various violations during the testing in three subjects - the Belarusian and Russian languages and Belarus' history. According the SCC head, the testing procedure is placed under rigid control from the Committee.
