OREANDA-NEWS. On June 19, 2007 “Institutional Investor” financial magazine named Alessandro Profumo, Head of UniCredit Group, the best European CEO of the year in banking sector (published in June’s issue of Institutional Investor, 2007), reported the press-centre of  IMB.

“When Alessandro Profumo took over as chief executive of the former Credito Italiano 10 years ago, the bank was an amalgam of local fiefdoms that seemed destined to become roadkill for a larger European rival. But Profumo had bigger dreams – and the managerial talent to achieve them”, - writes the magazine.

Today UniCredit Group created by Alessandro Profumo is one of the leading banking groups in Europe with presence in 20 countries, network of over 7,200 branches and serving around 35 million clients. Recent merger with Italy’s Capitalia helped UniCredit vault from sixth to second in ranks of Europe’s banks in terms of market capitalization.

The list of the Best European CEOs was formed upon the results of a survey held by “Institutional Magazine”, in which portfolio managers and self-side equity analysts were asked to choose the top-performing CEOs in their domains. In banking finishing runner-ups to Alessandro Profumo are Peter Wuffli of Switzerland’s UBS and Baudouin Prot of France’s BNP Paribas.
