OREANDA-NEWS. A contract was signed for TVEL to supply low enriched nuclear fuel of VVR-2M type for a research reactor located in the Nuclear Research Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in Kiev. The fuel will be supplied in the framework of the Russian-American Reduced Enrichment for Research and Test Reactors or RERTR program, the press service of TVEL reports. The delivery is scheduled for 2008. The new fuel which is less than 20% enriched with uranium-235 will ensure safer operation of the research reactor and reduce the terrorist threat. It is not the first supply of low enriched fuel under this program by TVEL. Earlier, similar fuel was supplied for research reactor VR-1 Vrabec of the Czech Technical University in Prague, for research reactor of the Tajoura Nuclear Research Centre in Libya and Dalat Nuclear Research Center in Vietnam.

The nuclear fuel will be fabricated by the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant which is part of TVEL Corporation.
