OREANDA-NEWS. November 19, 2007. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has met with Pyotr Prokopovich, the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus, to receive his report.

All the main targets of the national monetary and credit policy over 10 months of 2007 have been met. The stability of the national currency has been secured; the crediting of the real production sector has been outpacing the intended rate; the state has been pursuing a well-balanced interest rate policy; the payment system has been working reliably. All the obligations of the banking system before the real production sector have been fulfilled, according to Pyotr Prokopovich. As for the banking system itself, it has been progressing rapidly. All the resource base and equity capital growth targets have been met.

The President has tasked the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank to take appropriate measures so that the banking system could meet all its 2007 targets.

The Head of State has been informed on housing construction in Belarus. By and large, the housing construction programme for this year will be fulfilled, Pyotr Prokopovich said.

Considering the increasing demand for housing, the President required that the price for one square meter of housing be reduced through stepping up the volume of construction. Specifically, Alexander Lukashenko gave directions to consider revising upward the housing construction targets for the current five-year period.
