OREANDA-NEWS. December 04, 2007. The production of Pendolino high-speed trains intended for service between Saint Petersburg and Helsinki began at the Alstom plant in Italy’s Savilyano on November, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

The Pendolino was commissioned by Karelian Trains Ltd, a joint venture between Russian Railways and Finnish Railways (VR), which will operate the services.

Mikhail Akulov, chairman of the Karelian Trains’ board of directors and also Vice President at Russian Railways, noted that this was a further step towards Russia becoming a member of the elite “club” of countries using high-speed railways.
