OREANDA-NEWS. On December 07, 2007 Gomel oblast and Lubuskie wojewodztwo signed an agreement on cooperation in Zielona Gora, reported the press-centre of  Gomel Invest.

The document was singed by Alexander Yakobson, the Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee and Krzysztof Szymanski, the Marshalek of the Lubuskie wojewodztwo.

The document aims to develop interregional relations, boost business contacts in the trade-economic and investment spheres and cooperation in culture, education, physical education, sports and tourism. The sides have agreed upon the information exchange to intensify the contacts and implement the plan of joint events.

While delivering his speech at the regional economic forum, Alexander Yakobson has called foreign sole traders upon partaking in investment projects in Gomel oblast. Special attention was turned to the free economic zone Gomel-Raton.

Alexander Yakobson and Janusz Krzysztof Kubicki, the President of Zielona Gora, have outlined the ways of interaction in the cultural sphere, the participation of Polish and Belarusian creative groups in different festivals.

The governor of the Gomel oblast has attended a session of the committee on issues related to the Polish-German interregional cooperation. The session took place in the town of Zagan. Danuta Hubner, the EU Commissioner for Regional Policy partook in the session as well. Delegations from Belarus, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine were able to get familiar with the experience of the regional cooperation between Germany and Poland.

The agreement on cooperation, signed between the Gomel department of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the West Chamber of Commerce and Industry, envisages joint events and assistance in developing trade-economic contacts between the Gomel oblast and Lubuskie wojewodztwo. In 2008 Poland will host a seminar on the Gomel oblast investment attraction. Gomel plans to hold a conference to discuss joint projects on constructing motorway service objects (motels, cafes and restaurants). The two sides are going to set up permanent information exchange channels and issue a bulletin about business proposals of Gomel and Lubuskie companies.
