OREANDA-NEWS. January 29, 2007. Pursuant to the Presidential Resolution No. 433 "On additional measures to develop the system of non-cash payments based on plastic cards" of 3 August 2006 and the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan No. 445 "On measures for further development of the plastic card based payment system" of 24 September 2007, measures were continuously taken to reduce the off-bank circulation of cash, reported the press-centre of Uzpromstroybank.

Last year commercial banks of the country have issued some 500,000 cards and installed 3,500 payment terminals.

As of 1 January 2008 the total number of plastic cards in circulation constituted 3,7 million, and the number of payment terminals – 17,800. The total volume of transactions conducted by plastic cards made up 594 billion soums, which is more than a double of the previous year's indicators.

In order to stimulate progress in the issuance of plastic cards on the territory of Uzbekistan the enterprises specialized in the issuance of banking micro-processor plastic cards and payment terminals and commercial banks have been exempt from the customs payments for the plastic cards, payment terminals, software, automatic teller machines, information self-service kiosks, and other equipment and materials used in the organization of plastic card payments imported by the commercial banks and the Single National Processing Centre for the period through 2020.
