OREANDA-NEWS. February 29, 2008. A total of UAH 10 billion (UAH 5,05 / USD 1) have been sterilized in Ukraine over the past two months, Finance Minister Viktor Pynzenyk told the press, asked about the government's fight with inflation. In January, the National Bank and the Finance Ministry managed to sterilize around UAH 6 billion of money mass, reported the Official website www.kmu.gov.ua.

It is expected that, thanks to these and other measures, the February 2008 inflation rate may be less than 2%, compared to 2,9% in January.

The 2007 inflation was 16,6%, which is the highest level from 2000, when it was 25.8% (henceforth December to December). In 2001, inflation was cut to 6,1%, in 2002 deflation of 0,6% was fixed for the first time in the history of Ukraine, and in the next three years inflation was 8,2%, 12,3% and 10,3% respectively.
