OREANDA-NEWS. On 27 March 2008 was announced, that the city authorities of Moscow are to allocate means from the budget for building 16 large car parks in various areas of the Russian capital in 2009-2010.

“Department of economic policy and development of Moscow will stipulate the limits in the budget for designing and construction of parking garages. So, four parking lots will be constructed both in the northern and western administrative districts of Moscow, three – in the northeastern district, two – in the southwestern district, one – in the eastern, southeastern and northwestern districts,” a source from the city administration of Moscow said.

As the city government predicted, a number of private vehicles in Moscow will rise to 2.879 million. At the same time the provision of Muscovites with parking lots will equal 40 per cent below the norm. Currently only 46 per cent of the car owners in Moscow are provided with parking lots.

According to State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of Moscow Main Department of Internal Affairs, 2.641 million private vehicles were registered in the city by the end of 2007.
