April 1, 2008 at the Government’s House in Astana Kazakhstan’s PM Karim Massimov met Patrick Kron, Alstom's Chairman and Chief Executive.

The sides discussed cooperation in the realm of railways development and electric power industry.

In particular, they discussed prospects of Alstom's participation in projects to modernize existing rolling-stock and arrange assembly of new rolling-stock involving the Kazakh locomotive overhaul facility.

Patrick Kron expressed his company’s interest in launching Pendolino tilting trains for the Kazakh railways. The company also offers cooperation in implementing a project to launch a new transport system in Astana, namely delivery of rolling-stock and equipment, construction and exploitation of street railways.

Besides, the sides discussed prospects of cooperation in deliveries of turbines, generators, and support equipment for Balkhash thermal power plant. The company also hopes to deliver equipment for largest Kazakhstan-based eclectic power plants.

“We look forward to not only implementation of select projects, but to long-term strategic cooperation. Therefore, the issues of technology transfer and launch of new enterprises are an important factor in development of cooperation”, K. Massimov summed up.
