OREANDA-NEWS. April 07, 2008. CJSC Transmashholding has sent the first eight-car ED4MKM-AERO to the Sheremetyevo international airport railway carrier Aeroexpress Ltd. The train is manufactured by the Demikhovsky Engineering Plant (DMZ, a Transmashholding member company), reported the press-centre of Transmashholding.

The new electric train will carry passengers between Moscow (Belarus railway station) and the Sheremetyevo international airport.

The first ED4MKM-AERO was delivered under a contract signed by the parties in December 2007. Under the contract, seven trains of the series will be delivered to Aeroexpress Ltd. this year.

ED4MKM-AERO comprises two head cars (one of them is a luggage car), four motor and two trailer cars. It is the latest motor-car rolling stock design first showcased in 2007. The electric train is designed for intermodal passenger transportation between a city and an infrastructure object outside the city area (airfield). It enables comfortable passenger transportation with a number of services available: communications, audio and video, and food service. The train has a special luggage car available for the passengers who have previously had their luggage registered at the airfield terminal located at the railway station. It is also comfortable for disabled people with locomotor apparatus problems. One of trailer cars has special seats and WCs for them.

The ED4MKM-AERO features a number of fresh construction solutions: modern streamlined shape of the leading car front part, advanced interiors of car saloons, improved video monitoring system, etc. The cars are connected by airtight vestibule platforms with a low floor (no prominence) for better security and comfort for passengers and service personnel. The improvement was achieved due to a backlash-free coupler, which also reduces buffing load on the car frame and coupler itself.

Aeroexpress Ltd. plans to launch the new ED4MKM-AERO electric train in June 2008, when a direct railway to the Sheremetyevo airfield is operational.
