On December 25, 2008 As part of a project to build a national information superhighway (NISH), a leading operator JSC "Kazakhtelecom" launched a fiber-optic link (FOL) "Uralsk - Atyrau". Entering this link completing the construction of major sites of NISH, reported the press-centre of Kazakhtelecom.

Length of FOC "Uralsk - Atyrau" is 535 km. The construction period - 2007-2008 years. At the project was sent to a total of over 1 billion 115 million tenge investment. The project aims at providing high-quality digital-distance, international communications of people of the western region and back-up channels of communication through the second ring NISH, which includes the following cities Aktobe, Atyrau and Uralsk.

In general, for the period from 1997 to 2008 years to implement the ambitious project NISH JSC "Kazakhtelecom" invested a total of 21 billion 423 million tenge. Currently, NISH includes fiber-optic lines totaling more than 11 500 km, linking between the provincial centers of the country, Almaty and Astana cities. In developing the design of super take into account such important factors as advantageous geographical position of the republic, the organization of digital-distance communication, quality and reliability of international and inter-channel communications with neighboring states.

Thus, it should be noted that the current process of establishing the foundations of the digital telecommunications infrastructure completed. The project also will accelerate the emergence of NISH republic as a major transit center in the Central Asian region.
