OREANDA-NEWS. July 21, 2009. The Heads of Moscow and Tatarstan Regional Offices of the FAS Russia Mrs Taisiya Tkacheva and Mr Alexander Grunichev participated in the 10th session of Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Competition Law and Policy of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva (Switzerland), reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

IGE UNCTAD focuses on elaboration of competition policy, as well as on capacity building and technical assistance. One of the main areas of IGE activity is strengthening the role of developing countries in the field of competition policy.

At the 10th session the Head of Moscow Regional Office of the FAS Russia Taisiya Tkacheva delegated her chairmanship of the 9th session of IGE to Mr. Eduardo Gara Miranda, the President of Chili's Tribunal for Protection of Free Competition.

It is necessary to underline the fact that on 15-18 of July, 2008 at the 8th session for the first time in the history of cooperation with the UNCTAD the status of chairman of the coming 9th session of IGE was assigned to a representative of the Russian competition authority. This is a testimony of the high level of trust and respect to the activity of the FAS Russia in the field of competition policy and enforcement.

On this session of the IGE UNCTAD the actual matters of competition policy were discussed, in particular: the relationship between competition and industrial policies in promoting economic development; public monopolies, concessions, and competition law and policies; the use of economic analysis in competition cases; and also voluntary review on the competition law and policy of Indonesia. Additionally, on this session, which also served as a preliminary conference to the VI Session of the UN Review Conference on Competition Policy, a provisional agenda for the mentioned conference was adopted and the Report of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts of the 10th session was approved as well.

The participation of the representatives of the FAS Russia in this session allowed reflecting the FAS Russia's position on a number of actual matters regarding competition policy and enforcement, exchanging opinions and holding discussions the representatives of the world competition authorities.
