OREANDA-NEWS. October 21, 2009. The German car-making giant Volkswagen is launching total cycle production in Kaluga, a city southwest of Moscow.

The production comprises car welding, painting and assembling. The opening ceremony is due to be attended by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. The Kaluga branch is expected to turn out 150,000 cars per year. The plant should stat operating at capacity as early as next year. At present Volkswagen’s Kaluga branch manufactures Volkswagen and Skoda cars that are adapted to Russian climate and roads. Besides the German carmaker, Kaluga region is the location of a Volvo Truck factory that turns out heavy-duty trucks, and yet another car factory is being built there, that of Peugeot-Citroen-Mitsubishi.
